This is from the research of the great brilliant mind, Brendan Devenney, who passed away last year, so he never published his investigations as a book. He speaks about Israel' and Zionists' leading role in the torture of South America. "Italian Fascists, headed by Delle Chiaie and Borghese, along with the CIA, actively supported General Augusto Pinochet in his coup against democratically elected socialist President Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973.

Delle Chiaie confirmed this.

And that Italian fascists met with and set up ties to, and made their headquarters in Pinochet’s Chile. And worked with his intelligence service, DINA.

The CIA used both these fascist and nazi proxies in Chile to expand their «project» throughout South America. Gestapo chief and war criminal, Klaus Barbie aided in the coup in Bolivia, financed by cocaine traffickers (the «Cocaine Coup») in July 1980. [3]

A top-secret 1979 report to the U.S. Foreign Relations Committee (declassified by the Obama administration) reveals that Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet had help from former Nazis in training and supporting his Operation Condor activities.

One such instance of nazi aid was the regime’s use of a «colony» (Colonia Dignidad) in Chile, run and frequented by «former» nazis, for torture and «disappearances». It was also later found to be a den for pedophillia.

DINA was made up of far right paramilitary units linked to «Patria y Libertad» and Italian fascists «Vanguardia Nazionale» [4]

The CIA (alleged the possibility) and Chilean exiles claimed, that nazi war criminal, and Mossad agent, Walter Rauff, who Pinochet had granted asylum to, became one of the key advisors to Pinochet’s DINA.

— In 1975 the previously mentioned DINA agents, made up of right wing fascists, were trained by Israel in return for their purchase of Exocet missiles.

— In 1976, the Esmeralda, a former prison ship used by Pinochet for torture and murder docked at Haifa port on a visit.

— Carter suspended military aid in 1977

— In 1978, Israeli General Mordecai Gur visited Chile where he lavishly praised the Chilean military.

— Israel sent 150 Shafrir a-a missiles in 1977, increasing to one thousand over the next ten years, an electronic radar system, large quantities of spare parts, light arms, ammunition, uniforms and helmets, antitank weapons and related training (Sharif, 1977) and special crowd-control vehicles with 4 water cannons. They also sold them the necessary technology needed to produce cluster bombs.

— Deputy defense minister of Israel Mordecai Zippori visited in Jan. 1979 and concluded an arms deal — six Reshef patrol boats.

— The Israeli and Chilean Air Force regularly visited each other, with Israel helping Chile develop its own aircraft industry.

— Israel was especially active in helping Pinochet regime with intelligence, counterintelligence and secret police (Weir and Bloch, 1981; Ghilan 1985)

— The director general of Chilean state TV and his wife, Pinochet’s daughter, visited Israel in 1980, invited by the Israeli foreign ministry to give them a media platform to help clean Chile’s image.

— According to a cable from the U.S. Embassy in Chile sent April 24, 1980, which was attached to [a] freedom of information request, Israel was a major arms supplier to the Pinochet regime.

— In 1982, there was a meeting between Likud deputy prime minister David Levy and Pinochet (Baram 1982)

— In 1983, there was an official visit by Chilean foreign minister Miguel Schweitzer where on state tv, he praised the relationship with Israel.

[6]

According to a cable quoting the American undersecretary of state from April 10, 1984, Israel was one of THE main arms suppliers of the Junta, which made it difficult to enforce effective sanctions against Chile, considering that American sanctions did not apply to Israel." - https://spanishhalyon.wordpress.com/2019/07/07/no-end-of-nazi-friends-pinochet-and-israel/

You do know Anglo-American bankers and industrialists financed both Hitler and Mussolini and before that engineered WWI? Sure, Jewish bankers figure into the equation but trying to blame Israel and Zionism alone for shaping recent history is short-sighted at best.

Lena's avatar

These bankers were commissioned by Zionists, like Max Warburg commissioned by Chaim Weizmann. You should learn history. By the way Jewish supremacism and power-grab ARE Zionism.

Here is how Balfour Declaration was extorted from Britain by Zionists in exchange for dragging of the US into the WWI.

Except the influence of the Freemasons and Jesuits predates the Zionists by centuries. I understand the desire to find a scapegoat except Zionism and by extension, Israel are late to a party stretching back at least to the Crusades. The influence in Latin America of Western Powers starts with the Spanish Invasion of 500 years ago, something we cannot ignore.

Most of those people are still in control in the US. Condor in South America, Gladio in Europe. Thats what US democracy is about. And dont forget Margaret Thatcher critical support to Pinochet.

A very timely history lesson. Thanks very much.

Being an outspoken dissident anywhere in the West feels riskier with every passing day.

It’s always been dangerous. Paradoxically, the greater risk is from not undermining the deep state. If it’s objectives are not delayed, diverted or forced into the open, we’ve no more than a few years remaining even in principle as free agents. These days, you’re less likely to be arrested, interned, sentenced on trumped up charges or murdered than 40 years ago. Digital exclusion & smearing have the same effect. They don’t mind if you disclose proofs of their malfeasance provided they can attenuate the onward spread of your messages and they can.

Thank you, Kit Klarenberg. Given U.S. imperial plans to reboot Pinochet era arrangements in Chile and accross South America today, your article on "Operation Condor: Transnational Murder Syndicate" is both timely and welcome.

The U.S. Army’s School of the Americas (SOA) was founded in 1946 in the Panama Canal Zone (Fort Gulick, near Fort Amador) as the “Latin American Ground School,” to provide technical and tactical training to Latin American allies. In July 1963 it was officially renamed the School of the Americas . From the beginning its Spanish-language curriculum reflected U.S. hemispheric-strategy aims. In the early Cold War the SOA taught courses in infantry, artillery, military police, radio repair, engineering and other basic skills . After the Cuban Revolution (1959), SOA’s mission shifted sharply. U.S. strategists adopted a “National Security Doctrine” that portrayed insurgencies and left-wing movements as an “international communist conspiracy” to be crushed by any means . President John F. Kennedy ordered SOA to emphasize anti-Communist counterinsurgency training for Latin American armies . By the 1970s the SOA curriculum explicitly included counterinsurgency operations to help Latin American regimes suppress guerrillas .

Fantastic job, Kit! Your mastery of a lot of material, weaving it into an intelligible and compelling article, is impressive. This is an important history, and as others have already noted, extremely timely as Trump prepares war with Venezuela.

God bless you for that, dear Jeff. Your humbling compliments and continued support of my work mean the absolute world to me, while serving as a potent motivation to keep going. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart, comrade!

The U.S. puts the worst Nazis in South America like Klaus Barbie and Pinochet.

The first country to implement "Neoliberalism" was Chile, under the fascist dictator Pinochet installed by the U.S. after CIA coup in 1973

Milton Friedman and his "Chicago Boys" just sold out the whole country of Chile to the Pinochet ’s cronies/western Corps at fire-sale prices.. (the same thing as the fascist clowns Milei and Ze green T-shirt are now doing to Argentina and Ukraine)

As a result, Chilean inequality rose to levels that were high even by South America’s abysmal standards.

BTW British gov (Blair and Straw) blocked the trial of Pinochet and refused his extradition from the UK to Spain, concocting the controversial medical report which said that he was "unfit" to stand trial.

And now, in 2025 the US installed another descendant of a Nazi, an ardent defender of Pinochet and the brother of one of the "Chicago boys":

Very timely review of this history, with the same protagonist again unleashing coups and death squads ariund the world!

BTW why on earth did Letelier seek refuge in the country that was sponsoring Pinochet? Surely that was never going to end well?

Excellent work as always Kit.

Marie‑Monique Robin’s investigation adds a crucial dimension to discussions of Operation Condor. In *Escadrons de la mort, l’école française* (Death Squads: The French School), she documents how "counterinsurgency" methods first developed by the French army in Algeria and Vietnam — including torture, psychological warfare, and the systematic use of “disappearance” of the "internal enemy" — were exported to South America during the Cold War. Her archival work shows that a permanent French military mission operated in Argentina from 1959 to 1981, training officers who later became central actors in the Dirty War and the wider Condor network.

Robin’s research makes clear that this was not a vague ideological influence but a structured transfer of doctrine. Veterans of the Algerian War, including figures linked to the Organisation armée secrète (OAS) — a group whose members have also been implicated by some commentators and researchers in theories surrounding the assassination of JFK — helped instruct Argentine and Chilean security forces in clandestine repression. The techniques they transmitted, from assassination, and abduction to secret detention and forced disappearance, became defining features of Condor’s operational logic.

Arte showed a documentary based on her work. Once. Years ago, it's been effectively memory-holed since.

Regarding "counterinsurgency" Roger Trinquier, a French Army Officer and colonial terrorist, in his 1961 book La Guerre Moderne ["Modern Warfare - A French View of Counterinsurgency"] explains helpfully that state "counterinsurgency" is terrorism:

"The goal of modern warfare is control of the populace, and terrorism is a particularly appropriate weapon, since it aims directly at the inhabitant. In the street, at work, at home, the citizen lives continually under the threat of violent death."

Excellent work, Kit.

Keep in mind it has been a long term project to centralize control so asking whether the CIA knew is rhetorical at best. I assume WWII was about many things but establishing asset-stripping mechanisms like the IMF/World Bank deployed in the Third World was important.

The "best" Nazis were imported to North America and the UK to continue working on a variety of weapons systems including mind control with torture techniques used by intelligence agencies and military assets like the School of the Americas tapping into the worst aspects of human nature.

From the inside, I lived Allende election crossing Chile from Puerto Montt to Arica, he won like

Hisler by the 37%¨he needed the Christian Democrats to at least abstain. and it happened, he was

a socialist but went as the head of a left coalition whom the strongest were the MIR that believed

in the revolution, they captured all the central and south central FUNDOS, chasing out owners and

sometimes killing them. but had no bloody idea how to make them produce, things began to get

worse, the only ones that produced food were the southern FUNDOS most in the hand of Chileans

of German origin. the two ways of transportation were by sea & by truck, the great majority of

truckers were family companies father and offsprings Most of the trucks were Pegasos of Spain

that were bought through the Hispano-Americano Bank, as all the spare parts, the bank went almost broke because, Chilean government didn't allow dollars or other international payments

go out, so if something broke .........tires were were the most delicate part.

We went to Chile carrying skiers that had to ski in the Latinamerican in Portillo. a five star hotel

and skiers didnt have milk, fruit and the Chinese meat was stale. so we went down to Santiago

to see our mountain compadres to see if they could find the extras for the boys.

Get food was hazarduous people would see s kew and would stay there no matter what they saled

after it could be exchanged. One thing people leave aside was the very little power Allende had

to face the MIR, The guy was eugenic you can read his doctorate thesis and prove it, he also had

connections with a MI6 agent that was developing the idea of internet, Chile was perfect because

only one line connected them from north to south. When the Golpe came URSS rejected refugees. The only real economic connection was with China.

Another day I'll wright how Condor worked in Argentina.

First, both queries are valid. Right now in the US, there is a split in the oligarchy of nationalists and globalists, and I suspect this split goes back some years, although there is no lessening of the goal of total hegemonic imperial power.

Second, I wonder if the Trump's regime policies towards "the hemisphere" long for a return of the politics shown in Kit's map.

Dr Mike Yeadon's avatar

What is the nature of the split? What is the evidence that this is more than nuance and instead extends up the chain of command sufficient to constitute a split that could be of some moment?

What can be done to exploit this split?

Tedder130's avatar

Most do not define the Deep State correctly and think of it as a bunch of sedentary bureaucrats, but I follow Aaron Good's work in AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM that the Deep State is parts of the visible elected government, but also the unelected security state, and the most powerful oligarchs, the rich men who meddle in politics, as well as organized crime (JFK's assassination was a trifecta). Like any informal group, the oligarchs have their differences—some say the only democracy in America is among the oligarchs—but even though they are fundamentally American imperialists seeking hegemony, they differ in how. The main difference now is between the nationalists like Trump and the globalists like Biden. Unlike the past, however, this split threatens to become violent.

Dr Mike Yeadon's avatar

Thanks, that’s a great description and tallies with what I could see, long before I gained any understanding that it had a name.

However, I was intrigued by your comment about a split.

I don’t doubt that differences exist between powerful people. I was hoping you were writing about something more fundamental but no worries.

We know from the Latin American operations that it was understood by the Pentagon that the only way to defeat a popular insurgency was to kill the populous that supported it - this Condor policy, a program for the 'decapitation' of the people's movements through assassination and/or capture and torture (in order to determine who to assassinate) - was a 'kinder gentler' version of the over-all policy of ethnic cleansing marked by mass murder of whole villages by the CIA trained, death squads.
